Designing Enemies

Currently in the middle of reading this post on how to make your enemies fun and use them to teach the player how to enjoy the game.  I thought I would share. http://www.flarkminator.com/2011/01/06/designing-enemies-bringing-it-home/

Human Porportions

I have been working on a drawing that will be made into a pose able doll in the near future.  This has lead me to research various opinions about human proportions.  I have a very old anatomy book by Dr.Paul Rich that goes into great detail about different ways of measuring the human body.
However, I wanted to share a link that I also found very useful:

It covers male vs. female, as well using different heights based on the head length

Churro Man

I took a script writing class this past quarter and wrote a script called "Churro Man".  A guy with churro powers has to fight various food related villains.  We had to do 2 concept pieces for our script.
This is a scene from the part when Churro Man must fight The Black Licorice.  He is more of a parody of Venom from Spider Man.  It was hand drawn, then painted in Photoshop.
This is the final villain.  A man eats some radio active chocolate covered bacon, and is transformed into a giant cute pig that is oozing with chocolate.  It can shoot fireballs out his nose.  The master mind behind the attacks, the Muffin Man, sends it out to destroy Churro Man and any restaurants in its path.

Churro Man has a phobia of mixing foods.  So when doing a Google search, I came across and image of chocolate covered bacon.  It sounds disgusting, but many people like it for its sweet but saltiness.

March

Its been a while since I have posted.  I am showing a long overdue image of the sculpture.
I am very glad I was able to do this.  It taught me a lot about anatomy.  I would suggest sculpting to anyone who really wanted to understand form.

I apologize for poor image quality.  That is due to my lack of understanding how to take a good picture.  These are the final drawings we did.  I went through an entire pad of tracing paper.  We drew them to size, and used them as reference for our sculpture.

Again, poor image quality.  The creative part of the assignment was to add a wolf head.  I made it a boxer.  I left the muscles defined, and added some of the major veins.  Now as a I look back on it, I see all kinds of flaws.  However, the experience was very rewarding, and look forward to doing more in the future.

swf 2

I have been working a mostly school work these past few weeks.  I am going to have dive deeper into rabbit anatomy if I want to make more progress on my character design.  I have been finishing up the sculpture too.  It is due tomorrow, and will probably be posting soon.
I have also been messing around a bunch in flash.  This is a more updated version of the previous ship game  http://terrylegan.aisites.com/flash/proj1.swf

I am also working on another game with a few friends just to see what we can do.  I have tried to learn how to do an effective slope detection.  It is a pain.  I will post that too if it goes far enough.

Class Sculpture

So we are starting a sculpture in class.  This is mostly to learn anatomy, not to become perfect sculptors.  Our teacher has been extremely helpful (especially now that we are down to 6 students!).  The twisting of the arms have been giving me the most trouble.  I hope to be able to one day become great at this, and I am sure many of the students in class would say the same thing. I am planning to make more sculptures in the near future to sell, so I better get real good at this.

I have been doing other things such as the character creation work shop (which  I need to post my final designs soon), and looking more into Flash.  Flash is fun because it is very easy to make a game and post it on the internet.  I have been doing some research and the general consensus seems to be that it is very hard to make a living off of Flash games.  Oh well, I will be making stuff with it until I have more skills under my belt.

First Flash Game

I've been taking a programming class in flash.  I have learned alot, and our teacher helped explain things very plainly.  It a very short game.  A standard space ship shooter.
